The majority of people that drink, go out of their way to avoid confronting the phrase ‘alcohol abuse’ as they do not believe it refers to them but you cannot ignore it forever. Early warnings about alcohol, the real problems that is, not the imaginary ones, would help people and help stop some of the misconceptions many of us believe.
Most of us have been made to understand and that too wrongly that any over consumption or misuse of alcohol is a self-destructing exercise, a slow and silent killer, from where there is hardly any chance of survival and many people, quite understandably think that such a condition is worse than being totally sloshed. This situation is further muddied by most “assessments” which only serve to justify one-size-fits-all treatment that almost never includes either moderation or real recovery as options. Many of the researches presented are quite helpful, however, it is still based on experiences that people gives remedy to their alcohol use as it is always subject to changes just like how they manage their other troublesome dilemmas such as smoking, weight loss, and the like.
Healthy alcohol consumption has been found to be approximately two drinks of distilled spirits, two bottles of beer, or one half bottle of wine per day for an adult man, and half that for an adult women. These amounts confer the most health benefits without any associated detrimental effects. For example one may go over the limits during some particular event or social gathering drinking over a period of time but the average consumption should ideally be limited within the above range.
Generally these two symptoms will occur in unison but either is sufficient to cause concern. The reasons can be attributed to feeling of alienation, lethargy and complete lack of any activity either mental or physical. Usually, when one reaches to this point, the standard approach is correcting the deficiency which can often lead the person back to the healthy manner of use, however, one thing that can speed up the process and be an aid towards achieving the most desired results is through counselling.
While a return to moderate or healthy use is normal, a period of abstinence, possibly one to two years, is recommended. This solution had given many people the focus towards the total abandonment of drinking since they were able to successfully modify their ways into living a more satisfying and productive lives. Addiction to alcohol or alcoholism results when one’s mental and physical self is saturated with alcohol. Some alcohol-related disintegration can also be found on the financial, legal, vocational, marital, recreational, social and medical aspects. Though this is not a very acceptable figure, about one third of all diagnosed alcoholics come down to moderate levels.
At this stage both medical and counselling help is usually necessary given the physical, social, emotional, and psychological aspects. Recovery prospects are uncertain at best and outcomes vary but as always, motivation and a belief in personal efficacy, as opposed to “powerlessness,” are the primary factors in success. Alcohol abuse and dependence are particularly correctable back to healthy moderate consumption levels. As noted by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, in a one year span, American adults who were suffering from alcohol addiction with a number of about 58 percent were able to trim down the levels of their alcohol consumption in a moderate manner.
Be keen in looking for a respective treatment that offers a variety of options when you are in need of one for yourself or to anybody that you are concerned with, but be aware that you should not limit yourself towards engaging to such program that only offers a “one-size-fits-all” strategy. Since you would never agree to any universal therapy regimen for a fatal disease like cancer which is applied to any and every type and stage of the disease, there is no question of accepting a similar concept when you are seeking medical help for a condition like alcohol abuse which does not even fall under the category of a disease.
