You will need some equipment to start with a successful beekeeping activity. You must make your equipment available before the bees actually arrive. Get the beehive before you do anything else.

Beekeeping

Your beehive must have no less than five supers. These supers are vital parts of your beehive because this is the area where the honey will be stored. The beehive bottom should be below the five supers and the cover must be on top. Supers are not used just for storage of the honey, they are also used for raising the young bees. Once you have an active hive each of these supers will contain nine to ten frames. You can make your choice from among them. The benefit of using a deep super is that you will have to buy foundation of a single size. A fully active beehive with deep supers can weight at least a hundred pounds. A strong wind may topple over your entire beehive. Arrange your beehive in a place that will be undisturbed by people or pets. A spacer is a piece of equipment beekeepers use to keep an equal amount of space between the frames while they are in the super.

The device you will now need is a smoker. The purpose of the smoker is to drive the bees out, it comes in handy when you want to do some honey harvesting. The design of the smoker is actually quite minimal. Its main parts are a funnels, a chamber for combustion and bellows. You can ideally use burlap in the smoker for the ignition because it lights up quite fast and it smolders a lot, producing thick dense fumes. You may also plan on using corn cobs, provided they are dried out. At the same time, the smoke can be taken into the beehive using the funnel.

Your next bit of stuff is the metal hive tool. You can use the metal hive tool to open the beehive, to separate its various components to maintain the cleanliness of the hive. The metal hive tool can really do a lot of thing in beekeeping for you. You can never be ready for your beekeeping shipment unless you have a bee brush. This is where your bee brush will come in handy.

When extricating the honey, you will have to use a fumer board. The bee repellent chemicals in the board help you to do that. You can get some inexpensive beekeeping stuff on eBay, but they may be used. You can get all components you will need for beekeeping over the Internet.
